Join the Mission to Craft USS ARIZONA Bells from Retired Flag Grommets
Join us in a patriotic endeavor! The Arizona Sons of The American Legion are on a mission to collect brass grommets from retired or soon-to-be-retired USA Colors for a special cause. These grommets will be melted and combined with tin and Arizona copper to craft three bells for the upcoming USS ARIZONA (SSN-803), set to launch in 2025. This marks the first time since 1941 that a vessel carries the name USS ARIZONA.
Act now by retiring flags, saving the grommets, and contacting Gary Vaughan (garyavaughan@gmail.com) to contribute. Provide your unit number, as they will become part of the bells' official history. The deadline for collection is February 24, 2024. Arrangements for collecting the grommets will be made during the week of 19-24 February.
