Update on GCC and Catalina Council Discussions
GCC Scouters,
Over the past several months, leaders from Grand Canyon Council and Catalina Council have been in conversation about the possibility of merging our two councils as part of a long-term effort to ensure the strongest possible future for Scouting in Arizona.
After recent discussions between the leadership and boards of both councils, Catalina Council will be focusing its efforts on continuing forward as an independent council serving southern Arizona in the near term.
We respect that direction and appreciate the thoughtful dialogue that has taken place throughout these conversations. Discussions about council structure and the future of Scouting are complex, and we are grateful for the many volunteers and leaders who invested time and care in exploring the possibilities.
Scouting in Arizona is strongest when it is rooted in the communities it serves. Dedicated volunteers, families, and supporters across the state—from large metropolitan areas to small towns and rural communities—are what make this movement possible.
We will continue to work in a spirit of partnership with Scouters and supporters in southern Arizona whenever opportunities arise, and we wish Catalina Council success as they move forward.
For Grand Canyon Council, our focus remains clear: ensuring that every young person is invited to experience Scouting and has access to a strong Pack, Troop, or Crew nearby; maintaining financial sustainability and a balanced budget; and delivering outstanding program and support for the volunteers, families, and communities we serve.
Thank you for your continued support of Scouting and for the role you play in helping young people grow into leaders of character and service.
Thanks.
