Safeguarding Youth Training Update: New Refresher Course Now Available

Scouters, there’s an important update regarding Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT) — formerly known as Youth Protection Training (YPT).

As many of you know, the new Safeguarding Youth Training launched last year and brought major improvements over the previous version. While the full course is still about 90 minutes, it is more engaging, more effective, and generally feels shorter than the old training. Unlike the previous version, which renewed every two years, the new course must be completed annually.

The good news: National has now launched the new Safeguarding Youth Refresher Training.

If you have completed the full Safeguarding Youth Training and your certification is still active — or has expired within the last 7 days — you may now take the new 20-minute refresher course instead of repeating the full 90-minute course.

Important reminder:

If your Safeguarding Youth Training has been expired for 7 days or more, you will be required to complete the full 90-minute training again.

That means the best strategy is simple: don’t let your training lapse more than 7 days. If you stay within that window, you can save time by completing the refresher instead.

The refresher is available in English and Spanish in the Volunteer Learn Center on My.Scouting.

Thank you for helping keep Scouting safe for every young person we serve.
