Planning for the Future of Scouting in Arizona

As summer camping gets underway across Grand Canyon Council, thousands of Scouts are creating memories, building friendships, developing leadership skills, and experiencing the adventure that has been at the heart of Scouting for generations.

At the same time, Council leadership continues to plan thoughtfully for the future.

As many Scouters know, Grand Canyon Council is moving forward with the planned sale of R-C Scout Ranch. The Council's leadership team and Executive Board remain deeply respectful of the many years of outdoor adventure, personal growth, and lifelong memories that Scouts, leaders, and families have experienced at R-C.

To help guide future decisions, the Executive Board has established the R-C Scout Ranch Proceeds Planning Committee, a volunteer-led group composed of Scouters from across Arizona. Supported by camp-specific task forces, the Committee is gathering information and evaluating opportunities to strengthen Scouting for future generations.

The Committee's work includes reviewing potential reinvestment opportunities at Camp Geronimo, Camp Raymond, and Heard Scout Pueblo, as well as considering other long-term investments that could support the mission of Scouting in Arizona for years to come.

The process is designed to ensure that a broad range of perspectives are considered, including those of youth and adults, unit and council volunteers, and individuals with experience in camping, facilities, program delivery, construction, finance, and long-range planning. Through site visits and discussion with a variety of stakeholders, the Committee will develop recommendations for future Board consideration.

While the Board has not yet determined how proceeds may ultimately be allocated, the Council is committed to approaching this work thoughtfully and responsibly, with a focus on strengthening Scouting in Arizona for today's Scouts and future generations.

We look forward to sharing updates as the Committee continues its work throughout the year.
