Don’t Skip the Parent Orientation Meeting!

The Sign-Up Night is just the beginning! Once new families have joined your Pack, the Parent Orientation Meeting is one of the most important next steps in helping them understand what they’ve joined and get excited about the journey ahead. This is your opportunity to go deeper into how your Pack operates, explain your program and calendar, answer questions, and be transparent about finances, fundraising, and any Pack dues or costs. Most importantly, this is where we want parents to understand that Cub Scouting is a “get in the game” program. Their child’s experience is better when parents are in the game alongside them, helping, participating, and making the adventure happen.

Make sure your Pack has a Parent Orientation Meeting scheduled and ready to go! These are best to occur one week after the sign-up night so we can set the tone early. Review the Parent Orientation section of your Recruitment Guide for the recommended topics and an easy to follow agenda. Take advantage of the Parent Orientation Guide so every family has something they can refer back to after the meeting. You don't have to answer every question in one night. The goal is to welcome families, set clear expectations, show them where to go for help, and get them excited to be part of the Pack. Give your new families a great start by getting them in the game!
